Meet the COWEA Team in Liberia

Romeo Dennis

Executive Director, COWEA

Romeo (age 48) is a 2014 graduate of ARI (Agricultural Research Institute) in Japan where he learned sustainable organic farming techniques. Returning to Liberia with a goal to help the women in his community, he formed COWEA in the spring of 2015 and established the first farming community, Telbomai. Romeo is a pastor, husband to Francis, and father to two young ladies, Lydia and Patricia. Romeo and his family live outside of Voinjama city in Lofa county, Liberia.

Damawah Jaggbeh

Karsa Community Director

Damawah (age 45) is the headwoman in the COWEA Karsa community, our second farming community for women and children. Romeo started working with her in 2016.  Damawah raises her 5 children alone after her husband left her in 2015.

Vargula Saybah

Vonimai Community Director

Vagulah (age 45) is the new headwoman in Vonimai.  She has 4 children; two boys and two girls. She had been with COWEA since 2021. Vagulah is very instrumental and proactive among the women working the Vonimai farm. She came from Kolahun to reside in Voinjama District before the the civil conflict in Liberia. Her husband was killed by a rebel group and she is currently a widow.

Gayduo Flomo

Lavalasu Community Director

Gayduo (age 54) has 2 children, both girls.  She joined COWEA in 2021 when we established the Lavalasu community farm.  She is the organizer of the women in this community.  Gayduo was the very first person in Lavalasu that Romeo spoke with concerning COWEA.  She comes from Zorzor District and because of civil war she was a refugee in Guinea 2002-2006.

Weedor Gaylor

Telbomai Community Director

Weedor (age 47) has lived in the Telbomai community all her life. When Romeo approached the community in 2015  to start sustainable farming, Weedor as the head woman became the natural leader for the women’s farm.  There are 50 women who make up the COWEA Telbomai community farm.  She is very instrumental in encouraging the women of the COWEA Telbomai community.  Seeing the success of the Telbomai farm under Weedor’s leadership, an anonymous benefactor gifted the farm with 2 pigs, who have reproduced and provided many COWEA communities with pigs.

Kebbeh Fobbay

Kugbemai Community Director

Kebbeh (age 47) is acting headwoman of the Kugbemai COWEA farm, which was started in 2017.   Kebbeh has been with COWEA since the 2018/2019 growing season.  She has 5 children, all girls.  Kebbeh makes soap and other things for her living.
